It’s been one year since Google announced their ambitious plans for a webmail system offering each user a whopping gigabte of storage. Now, on their one-year anniversary, they’ve gone the extra mile. Google has always been one to joke around, so check out the Gmail login page. (If you’re logged in, and Gmail is set to remember your username and password, log out to see the login page.) While you’re at it, why not pick up a Google Gulp to get you through that hard day of browsing the Interweb at work.
The “new features” page announces:
G is for growth
Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn’t mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we’re giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people’s lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more. We’re not in the plains anymore
Fonts, bullets and highlighting, oh my! Gmail now offers rich text formatting. And over 60 colors of the rainbow. Discover a land of more than just black and white. Learn more.
Then again, it could all just be a big April Fools joke. But I’m betting it’s not.
Oh come on Oliver! You know thats an April fools joke!
Haha wow, the Google Gulp… I did a double take when I saw that on Slashdot today. Yeah, google probably wins the April’s Fools award for this year.
Well, if so, Google has fooled News.com and the AP, among other reputable news sources that have picked up on the announcement.
and ironically enough, google gets on news.com and the ap because they are all hooked up to spider googles announcements. at least thats what im thinking. ingenious april fools day joke.
ahhh, i thought you were mentioning the drinks. on the other hand, i highly believe that the storage capcity is real.
