Much Anticipated Gmail Features

Recently, a link appeared on the Gmail interface touting newly added functionality. Curious, I clicked.

First, there is new integration between Google’s Picasa software:

An easier way to send up to 10MB of photos
Gmail now works with Picasa, Google’s free photo organizer. Use Picasa to easily find, edit and preview your photos. Log in to Gmail directly from Picasa and send the photos from your Gmail account. Picasa even automatically resizes your photos so they’re easier to receive and open. Your friends without such large email accounts will thank you. Learn more

For those of you that haven’t taken the time to download, install and try out Picasa: what are you waiting for? It’s free photo management software with simple (yet powerful!) editing functionality included, and Google continues to add new features with each release. Put simply, Picasa is photo software that Just Works. (Now, where’s that Linux version?)

Secondly, and far more importantly, Google has finally implemented Gmail for basic HTML browsers. There’s no longer any need to rely on unofficial workarounds like Gmail-lite. They’ve heeded the pleadings of the masses: finally, Gmail is accessible with our favorite, state-of-the-art, text browsers!

Not just any old computer. Actually, yes, any old computer!
Basic HTML view lets you access your Gmail messages from almost any computer running almost any web browser, even old ones (not just IE5.5+, Mozilla, and Safari). Especially great for traveling, since you never know what kind of browser that internet café in Siberia is going to have. Learn more

Now that POP access and basic HTML support have been taken care of, what’s next for the big G? IMAP access? POP message importing? Email address aliases?
