Tip: Disable USB Messages

Here’s a fix for a Windows XP annoyance: Many new USB products support the faster USB 2.0 protocol, but are thankfully backwards compatible with the slower, older USB 1.1 ports that have been in computers since the mid-90′s. Unfortunately, every time you plug one of these high speed devices into a legacy USB port using Windows XP, you’re given a warning:

HIGH-SPEED USB Device Attached To non-HIGH-SPEED Hub

But you already knew that. To disable this “warning”:

- Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware Tab > Device Manager

- Click the + next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers to open the drop-down list of available Host Controllers.

- Double-click the Host-Controller to bring up the Host Controller Properties Window.

- Advanced Tab > Check “Don’t tell me about USB errors”.
